Concrete Cooling Towers in Thailand

Concrete cooling towers in Thailand: what the type is, when it is the right choice, and how Synergy Services designs, builds and installs it.

A concrete cooling tower is a tower whose structure is cast in concrete, rather than built on an FRP or steel frame.

What the type is

Concrete has been used for cooling towers for many years, and the technology has been expanded from hyperbolic natural-draft towers to large mechanical-draft towers. Concrete cooling towers follow the design philosophy of the American Concrete Institute, with denser mixes and lower water/cement ratios than ordinary commercial construction (Cooling Tower Fundamentals, Section I, “F. Materials of Construction”, item 4, Concrete).

When it is the right choice

  • Fire risk — in many cases the higher first cost of concrete is justified by decreased fire risk.
  • Size — for larger structures, concrete gives higher load-carrying capacity.
  • Site conditions — the plant’s water quality and site conditions are checked at the survey stage, before the structure is chosen.

How it compares with the other types

  • FRP counterflow and FRP crossflow: FRP structures, with pultruded fibreglass one of the most commonly used framework materials for field-erected towers.
  • Package: factory-assembled towers, with larger multi-cell towers assembled as modules.

How we deliver this type

We design and build the tower from components sourced from many suppliers, and install it on your site. The process is the same for every new tower: survey, thermal sizing, design, build, installation, a CTI ATC-105 acceptance test by our team and, if you want it, a maintenance contract. See new cooling towers, from enquiry to handover. Every tower is sized and quoted per project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a concrete cooling tower?

In many cases the higher first cost of concrete construction is justified by decreased fire risk and, for larger structures, higher load-carrying capacity (Cooling Tower Fundamentals, Section I, Materials of Construction).

Can an existing tower be rebuilt in concrete?

Structural reconstruction replaces the casing, basin and fill with modern materials, FRP or concrete, where the site and civil foundations are sound. A structural and performance assessment tells you whether reconstruction or a new tower is the better route.

Do you have concrete cooling tower reference projects?

Yes: new concrete cooling towers at two industrial plants. Client names are not published on this site; the reference list is available on request.

Ask for a cooling tower quotation

Send us the heat load, water flow, inlet and outlet water temperatures and the design wet-bulb temperature, and we will size and quote the tower for your plant.
